The place of pilgrimage was created in connection with a spring according to folk belief of miraculous water. The original chapel was rebuilt in its current form in 1859. In the same year, a Way of the Cross was also built nearby. Rokole was gaining popularity as a place of pilgrimage for the wider region. In the nineties of the 20th century, another chapel was built on the hill above the original chapel, also dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and a whole area of other buildings is gradually growing here, built thanks to the Secular Institute of the Sisters of Mary.
